Dermaplaning 101: What to Expect From Your First Treatment
Dermaplaning is one of the most requested treatments at Fleur De Lys Spa — and one of the most misunderstood. If you're considering booking your first session, here's what the treatment actually involves.
What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment. Using a sterile surgical blade, your esthetician gently glides across the surface of the skin at an angle, lifting away dead skin cells, surface buildup, and fine vellus hair (sometimes called "peach fuzz"). There's no downtime, no numbing required, and no discomfort — most clients describe it as feeling similar to a light scraping sensation.
What to Expect at Fleur De Lys Spa
Our Dermaplaning + Glow Peel Facial pairs dermaplaning with a customized peel, so you're not just removing buildup — you're also addressing dullness and uneven texture in the same 40-minute appointment. Because the treatment is customized, the peel strength and products used are selected for your skin specifically, based on the conversation at the start of your visit.
Why Clients Love the Results
Immediately after dermaplaning, skin looks noticeably smoother and brighter — makeup applies more evenly, and skincare products absorb better since there's no dead skin barrier in the way. It's a popular treatment before a big event, but it also works well as a regular part of a skincare routine every four to six weeks.
Aftercare Tips
Because dermaplaning removes the top layer of dead skin, your skin will be a little more sensitive to sun exposure for a few days afterward — daily SPF is especially important during that window. Avoid harsh exfoliants or retinol products for a few days post-treatment to let your skin recover.
Book Your Dermaplaning Facial
